Edinburgh Highlights
  • Edinburgh Castle
Part of Edinburgh's World Heritage Site, this iconic symbol of Scotland's heritage dominates the city from its vantage point atop an extinct volcano. Especially worth seeing are the Honours of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny and Mons Meg, one of the world's oldest and largest medieval cannon.
  • Palace of Holyrood House
The Queen's official residence in Scotland, the Palace is situated at the opposite end of the Royal Mile from the Castle. Often used for Royal Garden Parties and as a venue for the presentation of honours, the Palace is open to visitors when official engagements allow. For more information visit www.royal.gov.uk.

Set in the lovely Princes Street Gardens, this impressive monument is a tribute to one of Scotland's literary heroes, Sir Walter Scott. Open to the public, the 200 foot climb will reward you with spectacular views across the city centre.
  • Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat
Right in the heart of the city is this extraordinary wilderness, dominated by Arthur's Seat, an extinct volcano. An easier climb than it looks, the views from the summit extend north across the Firth of Forth to Fife and south towards the Borders.
  • Royal Botanic Gardens
If you like flowers, plants or any other green and leafy organisms, the Edinburgh Botanic Garden is the place for you. It is a large public garden in which many types of plants are cultivated and displayed.
